Enar was born on on November 15, 2353 at the home of his family on Cardassia-Prime. He belongs to a family line that supplied the Cardassian Union with high-ranking officers for over a century. He also is following the long-established family tradition of service in the Cardassian fleet.
His father, a Gul and commanding officer of a Galor-Battleship, was as a strict disciplinarian and moralist. He teached his children all about the superiority of the Cardassian race. Because of the conservative teachings of his father Mabak disdains innovations or radical changes in established battle doctrine.
Generally conservative in planning and preperations, he is nevertheless surprisingly quick to act under sudden and unexpected pressure.
Mabak is of tall and lanky build and height and with the typical grey skin tone and black hair of a Cardassian.
He gives the impression of beeing a very open, friendly individual. Beneath this facade, however, is a coldblooded person who will let nothing stand in the way of his goals.
Mabak is extremely loyal to those he believes are friends and equally ruthless and dangerous to those who are not.
Mabak harbors a deep hatred for the Klingon Empire, because of their 2372 invasion against the Cardassian Union. Mabak believes that this unprovoked attack pushed the Cardassians to the alliance with the Dominion with all the consequences the Cardassian Union is suffering still today.
----
As a boy Mabak was betrothed to the younger daughter of an influential family, but when her father was discovered in a plot against the Central Command, the whole family was executed.
At age of 5, Enar began his schooling at a special private academy, where only members of conservative cardassian families were accepted. His father wanted to prepare his son when it came time for him to enter the prestigious Lakat-military-academy. Completing an education on Lakat guaranteed a student a direct assignment on a cardassian warship and so the possibilty to climb up the career-ladder. As it turned out, the young Enar was one of the outstanding cadets of the Lakat graduating classes.
When the Cardassians left Bajor in 2369, Enar was commissioned as Yelbrin (Ensign) to the CUS [Cardassian Union Ship] Grakara, a Galor-III-warship under the command of Gul Rivet - a typical hardliner-officer of the Cardassian fleet, who was highly respected by his crew.
In the next three years the CUS Grakara was used in patroling the cardassian borders and fighting the Maquis. During this time Enar was promoted to Galt (Lieutenant J.G.) and later Leyven (Lieutenant).
In 2372 a civilian uprising deposed the military government. In their rage and fear of a counter-rebellion the new rulers imprisoned or executed many high-ranking officers. The Cardassian fleet lost in few weeks most of their experienced commanding officers. After Gul Rivet was replaced by another (Detapa-Council-loyal) CO the CUS Grakara was sent to the rear areas of the Union for patrol duty.
This order saved Enar, because many of the cardassian ships along the border were destroyed during the surprise-attack of the Klingons in 2372.
At the end of 2373 the civilian Detapa-council was deposed and replaced with a conservative government under Gul Dukat who signed an alliance with the Dominion.
During the following Dominion War Enar lost his father who died in a battle against against Federation forces. Enar still served at this time as Leyven on the DCS [Dominion Cardassian Ship] Grakara under Gul Rivet who returned as CO after the political change on Cardassia. The DCS Grakara was used during the successful cardassian attack against DS-9/Terok-Nor, but was heavily damaged.
While the ship was under repair Enar was transferred to a squadron of smaller Hideki-class attack-ships and fought as CO of one of these ships - the DCS Yadecki - against the Maquis who were wiped out by the joint Jem´Hadar-Cardassian-forces.
The Dominion War cost many cardassian lifes and the moral of the Cardassian officers became low, when the Dominion gave cardassian territory to the hated Breen. Tensions grew high and finally the cardassian fleet switched the sides during the decisive battle between the Federation/Klingons/Romulans and the Dominion / Cardassian/Breen. At this time Enar was back on the DCS Grakara.
After the surrender of the Dominion and Breen, the Cardassian Union and Cardassia-Prime were badly damaged. Enar had to find out that his brother and his mother were killed during the Jem´Hadar massacre against Cardassia-Prime in the final stage of the war.
Tough his grief remains private, Enar never recovered from the loss of the beloved brother, the one person with whom he could always be himself.
With his home reduced to rubble Enar returned to the CUS Grakara, which was orbiting Cardassia-Prime.
It was the charismatic Gul Rivet who managed to motivate his officers. He knew that the only wish of most members of the cardassian military was to rebuilt the old and feared Cardassia and started an unique political career.
In the months before the victorious forces of the Federation-Alliance left Cardassian space, they restricted the flight pathes of cardassian warships, so the CUS Grakara had to stay in orbit at Cardassia-Prime.
Enar lived in this time with the other bridge officers at the home of Gul Rivet, which had survived the destruction by the Jem´Hadar.
There he met one of the daughters of Rivet, Sira. Educated, brillant and stunningly attractive she was a major catch. Enar was captivated by her, but she seemed to ignore him during meetings where they both were present. But during an accident, where they both were trapped in a room for nearly one day the two had fallen in love. So finally Enar approached his mentor and superior officer for his blessing. Gul Rivet first hesitated, but finally accepted the marriage - also because both families were influential within the cardassian military.
With this marriage the relativly unpolitical Enar was suddently involved in the great political game Gul Rivet was planning and playing.
Rivets group was getting more and more influential and he put his most trusted officers in important positions to widen his power.
In 2380 Gul Rivet became Kaylan (admiral) and in 2385 Legate and member of the reinstalled Central Command.
One year later, Enar Mabak became Gul of the 5th Order and took over command of the CUS Kirush, a Galor-IV-battlecruiser, in 2386.
CUS KIRUSH
During the next ten years the CUS Kirush under Gul Mabak was used in the battles the Cardassian Union had to fight after the Dominion War:
The capital planet was still badly damaged and needed massive support from the colonies to rebuilt itself. Endless convoys were heading from the cardassian colonies to Cardassia-Prime.
The Cardassian fleet had to protect these convoys against pirates and they had to suppress unrest in the colonies.
Gul Mabak enjoyed this time. He was commanding his own battlecruiser and thanks to the brilliant strategic leadership of Legate Rivet the fleet units of the 5th Order could outmaneuver or entrap the enemy forces.
In 2397 Mabak was ordered to take the position as a diplomat of the Cardassian Union. Although he disliked to leave his ship he accepted the order of his father-in-law without hesitation.
Mabak was first assigned as military attache at Romulus. In 2400 he was ordered back to Cardassia.
In 2401 Enar was again ordered to a diplomatic mission. This time he was sent by Rivet as the cardassian ambassador to Starbase Phoenix - a federation station in the Delta-Quadrant.
