CUS / DCS Grakara
Galor-III (Galor-IV) class
The ships of the Galor-class are the mainstay of the Cardassian fleet. These medium cruisers first entered service in the 2340's and were intended to oppose smaller and older vessels of the enemies of the Cardassian Empire. To encounter larger ship classes the Cardassians built a large number of this easy to bulid and maintain battlecruiser and operated in "hunter packs" of two or three together against more powerful enemy ships. Since the 2360´s the type-III-class is built. Normally operating with a crew of 600 under the command of a Gul these ships are very manouverable and could outturn an enemy capital ship without any problems. The primary weapon is the spiral-wave disruptor, which could fire from the front or aft of the ship. Because of its bulky design this weapon system has only a limited firing-arc but a few hits from this weapon are enough to blast through the shields of an enemy vessel. The secondary weaponry consists of disruptor-systems which are placed throughout the hull and the wings of the ship. The compact design of the Galor-class allows their commanding Guls to fly daring maneuvers. The Galor-ships are renowned for their stable flight performance in nearly every situation. Because of the problems to integrate a sufficient torpedo-weaon-system on the Galor-class frame, normally these ships don´t have such missile weapons. The Galor has generally proved a useful and high effective vessel for the Cardassian military, and with the "hunter pack"-tactic it is a serious competitor even with the Federation Galaxy or the Klingon Vor'Cha-class. Since 2380 the type-IV-class is built.

The Grakara was built in 2965 and is still in use today. During its 35 year history it fought successfully in the Maquis-War, against the Klingon-invasion forces, during the Dominion War and in battles which followed this great war. It was mainly under command of Gul Rivet and still serves today as his personal cruiser. From 2985 to 2988 it was heavily modified and upgraded to a Galor-IV-class ship.
